Success for most companies is often measured in terms of sizable increases in revenue and satisfied clients, but for American Facility Services’ President, Kevin McCann and Vice President, Harold Angel, they also view success in how well an organization manages and treats its employees.
According to Kevin when AFS opened its doors for business in 1991, the company had fewer than 10 employees and every member of staff who joined the team treated one another like family. Today, nearly three decades later, with thousands of employees, Kevin proudly says that he feels that same "family atmosphere" each day he comes to work.
Kevin attests this level of success to employees who work well together and genuinely want to see their fellow co-workers succeed. "That's a rare thing to find in business today," Kevin says, and one that he truly appreciates. "Our employees really do care about one another and this is really important as AFS continues to grow and diversify."
Harold believes in keeping a positive attitude and team spirit in the workplace. He says "It's best if you lead by working side by side with the team." The employees know his open door policy and he is always accessible to help or listen.
When asked what tips for success helped them lead this successful organization for nearly 30 years, Kevin smiles and says that his "stick-to-it" attitude and hanging in there for something he believed in is his primary formula for success. Harold adds “From the person who sweeps the floor, to the person who manages the accounts, to all the office personnel, everyone has made this business a success!” He says “Treating people the way you want to be treated is key.”
